About Alex
MY BACKGROUND
I’m a passionate, dedicated and experienced mover, teacher and learner. I love challenging my mind and body, learning new skills and gaining confidence as I see myself progress. I’ve always loved to move; physically, geographically and across disciplines. Rather than see these elements at loggerheads with one another, I’ve learned to see how they connect and how this variety of experience informs and enriches the way I understand movement and the body and how it can help you, too.
My movement background is diverse and interdisciplinary with dance training in various contemporary techniques, urban styles, Salsa and West African dances as well as yoga and somatic practices and I have an MA in Dance Anthropology and a Diploma in Clinical Exercise and Rehabilitation. As such, I have lived, worked, danced, studied, presented and travelled across the world, learning from many different movement specialists and schools of thought, collecting tools to teach smart and effective movement.
APPROACHING
MOVEMENT
After witnessing the positive impact of practising Pilates and how it could support my other movement practices, I qualified as a Pilates teacher in 2019. Since then I have worked with a broad range of people- in person, online and internationally- creating bespoke, person-centred movement classes and workshops. Whilst I am detail-oriented, I avoid a dogmatic approach to movement in favour of a holistic one, drawing on relevant tools according to my clients’ needs. My classes aren’t typically what you might find in a Pilates class but the principles offered are a strong grounding point. For me, my movement practice equips me with tools to move confidently and consciously doing all the activities I love most, on and off the mat.
WORKING TOGETHER
I’m passionate about working with clients to improve body awareness, build confidence in movement and overcome fears by building strength, improving flexibility and fully exploring the range available to each individual; it feels great to move freely. Together with thoughtful, accessible instructions and guidance, I encourage clients to move their bodies in different ways to improve skill, coordination and ultimately contribute to a better sense of overall wellbeing- the perfect antidote to modern life. Whether you are rehabilitating from injury or striving for improved physical performance, my classes will leave you feeling calmer, stronger and confident that your body can support you doing the things you love most. Ultimately, Pilates keeps my diverse movement background in the foreground and it will for you too.
