BALANCE

YOUR MIND & BODY

Movement to empower your mind and free

your body

People come to my classes because they want to feel fitter and stronger, less lethargic and move pain-free doing the things they love. People stay because it works; they’re challenged to move differently, they find out more about their bodies and feel better- and more calmly- connected to themselves.

I offer Pilates matwork classes- virtual and in-studio- that are about you getting to know your body while having some you-time. Expect a series of low-impact, floor-based exercises that focus on mobilising your joints and spine, encouraging mindfulness, strengthening and stretching the body holistically and ultimately leaving you feeling calmer and more confident. I have a keen eye for detail, so you can expect nuanced instructions, good-humoured encouragement and a few laughs.

If you’re looking for

  • Gentle Class

…a slower pace and are relatively new to matwork this class is for you. There are fewer weight-bearing exercises taking the pressure off the wrists and knees. This class might be called Gentle but don’t be fooled, going slower won’t mean you’re not working hard.

  • Open Class

…an all-over-body workout but haven’t decided if you want to ramp it up or take it a little calmer, then this Open class is for you. Progressions and options are offered that give you the chance to change your focus from strength to range of motion, exploring your body in different ways. I’ll be calling you out if you think there ‘are easier options’ though, I’ve got an eye for it.

  • Power Flow Class

…a little more flow but want to stay connected to the mat rather than tear it up on the dancefloor, then this class is for you. As in an Open class, we work through a series of exercises before linking them together and flowing through exercises and transitions to create a Power Flow sequence.

What you’ll get from my classes

  • Move pain free

Pain is complex and, in most cases, there isn’t a cure-all. With that being said, many of us have found the benefits of conscious, mindful movement together with strength and confidence building to lead to easing pain and in some cases, eradicating it.

  • Promote mindfulness

With the many distractions that the modern world demands, connecting with ourselves can be tricky. Concentrating the mind on challenging the body can help us feel more present and connected, and even reduce stress.

  • Improve coordination

Coordination is at the heart of everything we do- walking, driving, swimming, dancing. Exercises that challenge our coordination improve our ability to think and how quickly we can process information. Building a strong centre helps us to balance better too, the foundation for good coordination.

  • Strengthen holistically

It’s great, sometimes necessary, to target individual muscle groups but it’s also great to see how the body can work together as a whole. By noticing patterns of movement or differences in strength across our bodies we can better equip our muscles to work as a community-hurrah!

  • Build confidence

Feeling stronger, more supple and more agile means we can feel better placed to express ourselves more fully in our favourite activities - whether that’s cycling, swimming in the sea, playing with kids or twerking on the dancefloor.

  • Regain and relinquish control

When everything off the mat can feel chaotic, learn to find stability in stillness and in motion. By learning how to harness momentum in the body we might be better able to ‘go with the flow’ in life…
